ACE. The Nineth Annual System Awards for Cable Excellence
From 1978 through 1997, NCTA sponsored the ACE Award to honor excellence in American cable television programming. It was a counterpart to the Emmy which previously did not recognize cable programming. After 1997, the Emmys included cable television programming and the ACE Award was discontinued.
Karen Lile, Independent Executive Producer, created a Chopin Classical Music Video COM TEAM™. Tele-Communications, Inc., doing business as Televents, was the largest Cable Company in the US at that time, and contributed local origination programming time for its local television stations across the country as part of its franchize deals with the cities it contracted with. In Lafayette, CA, Karen Lile partnered with Charlie Shepler, who was the head of the Contra Costa County Televents Local Origination Programming studios. Charlie contributed studio recording time, equipment, camera operators and his personal talent as a director to the Chopin Classical Music Video COM TEAM™ Project. Kendall Bean and Piano Finders also contributed their resources to the project as Team Members.
The Chopin Classical Music Video COM TEAM™ Project began in January 1985. It was broadcast on Arts & Entertainment Network to an audience of 18 million in July, 1986. Karen Lile received an ACE Award Nomination in 1987..
